Public Lecture: From the Soil to the Stars - The Astronomical Products of Ransomes of Ipswich

Bill Barton presents a historical lecture in the Whittle Theatre. “From the soil to the stars, the astronomical products of Ransomes of Ipswich”. This talk describes the astronomical products of Ransomes of Ipswich, a firm more usually noted for its agricultural output. Three major instruments at the Greenwich Observatory along with some less well known examples will be described.

Bill is an early retired engineer located in Ipswich, Suffolk. Interested in the history of astronomy. Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society. Founder member of the Society for the History of Astronomy. Member of the British Astronomical Association and Deputy Director of the Historical Section.
